Hypnotism

If you wish to show, demonstrate or perform a hypnotism act in public, you must have authorisation from the local authority in England and Wales. You must comply with any conditions attached to an authorisation.

Eligibility Criteria

Hypnotism includes hypnotism, mesmerism and any similar act or process which produces or is intended to produce in any person any form of induced sleep or trance in which the susceptibility of the mind of that person to suggestion or direction is increased or intended to be increased.The authority may attach conditions to an authorisation in the interests of public safety. It is an offence to hypnotise a person under 18.

Target completion period: we will aim to issue your authorisation within 6 working days from determination of your application.

Will Tacit Consent Apply?

No. It is in the public interest that the authority must process your application before it can be granted. If you have not heard from us within a reasonable period, please contact us.

If you have a complaint about a performance of hypnotism, please try to resolve this direct with the event organiser in the first instance.  If you are unable to resolve the situation, please put your complaint in writing to the Licensing Team.
