If you are experiencing domestic abuse

Anyone can be a victim of domestic abuse.  Domestic abuse can be a single incident or a pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening behaviour, violence or abuse.  Abuse may be sexual, emotional, economic or emotional abuse.

Domestic abuse may be perpetrated by partners, ex-partners or family members.

Help from the Council

If you are experiencing domestic abuse we may be able to help you by:

  • Referring you to specialist agencies who can support you
  • Working with other agencies to make your home safer for you.  This may include changing locks or improving securing or helping with legal measures to exclude the perpetrator from your home.
  • If you must leave your home because of domestic abuse, we can work with you and other agencies to offer you a place of safety.
