Torridge District is fortunate to have a variety of listed buildings and currently has 20 conservation areas, mainly centred on historic settlements. The historic environment is at the heart of Torridge's attractions and the Council has an on-going commitment to supporting it.

To check if a building is listed you can search 'The Heritage List' on the Historic England Website, located in the links section on this page.

If you have read the guidance on the planning portal and our website, but still remain unsure whether listed building consent is needed for your proposal, we can give you informal advice through our pre application advice service. This is where a planning officer will assess your enquiry based on the relevant planning policies, the service can also be used to answer more in depth queries about listed building consent or any other matter that could require further research.

Please email your enquiry into planningsupport@torridge.gov.uk with an outline of your proposal and a location plan of the site.

Please note Listed Building Enquiries are free of charge unless the proposal also requires planning permission at this point a fee would apply. You should receive a written response within approximately 28-42 working days.
