Competition opens to name Torridge's new vans!
You might have seen 'Optimus Grime' and 'The Grim Sweeper' cruising the roads of Torridge. Now, Torridge residents have the chance to get creative and name two new street cleansing vehicles that have recently joined the Council fleet.
The fun competition forms part of the council's sustained effort to maintain cleanliness and tidiness in the towns and villages of Torridge by minimising waste. The vans will be stationed in Holsworthy and surrounding areas to support the Cleansing Team with various tasks, such as cleaning toilets, emptying litter and dog bins, street sweeping, picking up litter, managing missed collections and clearing any illegally dumped waste.
The Council have highlighted that they will ideally be looking for innovation, imagination, and an all-important humorous element. With this in mind residents are being encouraged to be as creative as possible with their suggestions, but with a polite reminder to refrain from any offensive or inappropriate names.
The winning names for the vehicles will be chosen by the crews, supervisors, and managers of the council's waste and recycling service and will be printed and displayed on the vehicles for all of Torridge to see.
To enter the competition, residents will need to go online and email communications@torridge.gov.uk with their suggestions. Entries close on Friday 20th September, with the winners being notified in October.
Chris Leather, Torridge District Councillor and Lead Member for Operational Services, said:
"I am pleased to announce and support this competition. I encourage the residents of Torridge to utilise their creativity and devise the most innovative names they can think of. The Cleansing Team works extremely hard across the district and does a fantastic job of keeping our streets clean. The winners of the competition will have the honour of seeing the names they submitted displayed on the new vehicles as they carry out their work in the district. Thank you in advance for participating."
