Competition opens to name Torridge's new waste and sweeper lorries!
You've probably heard of 'Boaty McBoatface' and 'Gritty Gritty Bang Bang,' but now Torridge residents are being given a chance to get creative and name four new waste and cleansing service vehicles coming to the Torridge District Council fleet this Spring. The new arrivals will include two road sweepers, one garden waste lorry and a refuse lorry.
The fun competition forms part of the Council's ongoing recycling campaign to raise awareness, create an interest in recycling, and help reduce the districts carbon footprint. The Council have highlighted that they will ideally be looking for innovation, imagination, and an all-important humorous element citing "Jon Bin Jovi" or "Bin Diesel" as worthy examples. With this in mind residents are being encouraged to be as creative as possible when suggesting names, but with a polite reminder to refrain from any offensive or inappropriate names.
To enter the competition, residents will need to go online and fill out a web based form available at: torridge.gov.uk/namethatlorry. Entries close on Friday, 26th May with the winners being notified in June. The winning names for the vehicles will be chosen by the crews, supervisors and managers of the council's waste and recycling service and will be printed and displayed on the vehicles for the whole of Torridge to see.
Torridge Council Operational Services Manager, Richard Haste said:
"I am delighted to announce the launch of this competition and encourage the people of Torridge to get creative and come up with the most innovative names they can think of. The legacy for the winners will be to see the names they put forward touring the district as the new vehicles go about their work. Thanks in advance for taking part and if anyone wants to know more about recycling and tips and ideas to boost their recycling even further our website is jam-packed with helpful and insightful information - simply visit torridge.gov.uk/wasteandrecycling."
