Local Government Reorganisation Timeline

Our proposal will be considered by Full Council on Wednesday 26 November 2025.

Subject to their approval, we will submit our final proposal on Friday 28 November 2025 to the Government for consideration.

The Government will then review all the proposals and aim to begin their formal consultation in early 2026.

Subject to this process, the Government's ambition is that all new councils go live on 1 April 2028, following Shadow authority elections in May 2027.
