Officers with certificates

Torridge District Council has just celebrated the accomplishments of several officers who have recently attained certificates in a variety of team leadership and management courses.  Over 30 members of staff at Torridge District Council have recently achieved qualifications through the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), ranging from Level 3 (A‑Level equivalent) right through to Level 7 (Master's degree equivalent!).

Torridge Council's Leader, councillor Ken James, joined Chief Executive Steve Hearse in presenting certificates to officers at an event held at Riverbank House in Bideford.

Torridge Council has for several years committed itself to an active programme of staff development by offering on-site training through partnerships with a range of education providers. The commitment is designed to allow staff to achieve their full potential by providing clear pathways to help individuals gain the necessary skills and qualifications to supporting learning, development and career progression.  The council also provides paid placements for a number of apprenticeships across a wide range of services, and in recent years has created three fully funded Degree Level Apprenticeship positions.

Councillor Ken James, Leader of Torridge District Council, said:

"Access to ongoing training and personal development opportunities has long been recognised as a key ingredient in the success of any organisation. I am extremely proud of all of the officers who have successfully completed their qualifications, alongside their busy day jobs. It's inspiring to see so many individuals work hard to complete the coursework and achieve their goals. As a council we are fully committed to providing and creating equal opportunities for everyone to develop transferable skills and improve their knowledge and potential. It's a win-win for all of us!"

Brad from the IT Team at Torridge District Council, who recently completed the ILM Level 5, said:

"I am so pleased that I decided to take the opportunity to study for my ILM Level 5 through the council. The knowledge and skills I have gained through the course have boosted my confidence in my ability to manage and given me a new perspective and insight.  My advice to anyone thinking about gaining additional qualifications through work is just go for it.  The hard work really does pay off, and I have just earned a degree equivalent."
