If you're looking for something to do between the Christmas and New Year period and want to get the family out in the fresh air, then why not check out some of the free activities organised by the Northam Burrows Rangers.

If you are going for a walk with your family, how about trying the Northam Burrows Rangers winter challenge? Spotter sheets are available at the Pebbleridge kitchen (EX39 1XS) which is open between 9am and 4pm every day except Christmas day. Collect your free copy and see how many points you can score while exploring the unique landscape.

For anyone wanting to make a good start on their new year's resolutions, join the rangers for a free guided walk on Thursday 1st January. The team will be setting off from the visitor centre at 2pm and aiming to get back around 3.30pm. Whilst the rangers will aim to stick to the less muddy areas of the park, wellies/walking boots/old trainers would be a good idea!

On Friday 2nd January, the rangers will be leading a wildflower walk with a difference! The Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland (BSBI) plant hunt, known as the New Year Plant Hunt, has been running annually since 2012, starting as a fun challenge among botanists and growing into a significant citizen science event. Meet at Westward Ho! slipway at 1.30pm, for a guided stroll around the more sheltered areas of Westward Ho! in search of wild plants in flower.

Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, Lead Member for Culture & Community Engagement, Torridge District Council, said:

"Finding ways to tempt the family outdoors and get out in the fresh air can sometimes be a challenge, especially at this time of year. Going for a walk after Christmas especially after all the potential excess eating and drinking is a great way to enjoy the winter scenery and a refreshing break from the family chaos. These free activities offer a fantastic opportunity for families to connect with nature and discover the variety of interesting wildlife living in our local area - all contributing to better physical and mental well-being."
