Location, location, location. Screen Devon, Torridge District Council and North Devon Council launch new filming initiative

With the amazing growth in the film and TV industries in the UK, Torridge District Council is keen for the area to get in on the action.
Screen Devon, with support from Torridge District Council and North Devon Council, is hosting their first event in Bideford on 31st March, meeting with members of the film industry, location managers and location owners to share their vision and the benefits from hosting a production company, and the longer-term income generated by the ever-growing trend in screen tourism.
Attendees will hear from Film and TV industry experts, managers of companies already attracting productions and Screen Devon.
There will be opportunities to hear from representatives at Torridge District Council about how new locations can register.
As a beautiful and diverse part of Northern Devon, Torridge falls within the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere and North Devon Natural Landscape (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Offering potential production companies a variety of location types, from beautiful beaches and cliffs, to stunning villages and towns, Torridge and North Devon have the opportunity to attract film crews from all over the world. However, different types of location are needed to make the area even more attractive to potential producers. Examples include larger, empty buildings, and houses which can double for other locations such as American or European style homes.
Who knows, next year we could find Hollywood A-Listers wondering down the high streets of our towns and villages.
Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, Lead member for Community and Culture said;
"This is such an exciting opportunity for us here in Torridge! We live in a beautiful area and it's not surprising it has been recognised as having the potential to become a 'go-to' destination for production companies. We have some gorgeous beaches, stunning cliffs, and beautiful countryside, as well as the heritage of our historic market towns and traditional villages. This could really raise the profile of the area and have a very positive impact on our economy. And I'm also excited to see if we attract some famous film stars here in the future!"
Claire Horrocks, Screen Devon Manager said;
"One of Screen Devon's main priorities is to help make Devon more film friendly and better connected. This event will allow us to showcase the incredible assets our region has to offer and understand the benefits of attracting more productions here. This collaborative partnership with Torridge District Council, North Devon Council and Screen Devon is also a great example of how we can work together to improve opportunities for the creative industries and our local economy."
