Torridge Remembers - Armistice Day 2024

Armistice Day 2024

Armistice Day 2024

At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, Torridge District Council Officers and Councillors came together at the Riverbank House flagpole to remember the fallen.

Armistice Day has been observed across the nation every year since 1919. Traditionally, this day serves as a moment for the nation to pause and reflect on the service and sacrifices made by Armed Forces personnel over the years.

In 2024, the nation marked the 40th anniversary of the D-Day Landings. Along with the accompanying airborne operations, this event marked the beginning of the liberation of France and western Europe. Throughout the day and into the evening, remarkable efforts were made across the country to commemorate this significant occasion, including organising events and the lighting of beacons.

Councillor Simon Inch - Torridge District Council, said:

"Remembrance allows people of all ages and backgrounds to reflect upon the service and sacrifice of the Armed Forces and to join in the hope for a brighter, more peaceful future.

As a community, it's essential that we honour not just those who have made the ultimate sacrifice but also those who continue to serve and their families. By embracing the memories of the past, we can show our unwavering support for the Armed Forces community today, standing alongside them with compassion and gratitude."
