What's happening?
The Appledore Clean Maritime Innovation Centre is poised to become a key addition to the South West's maritime industry and be at the forefront of UK green energy.
Located within the North Devon UNESCO Biosphere, the Centre will provide workshops and office space to encourage collaboration and develop innovative solutions for industry challenges around decarbonisation and environmental stewardship, to create positive impacts on local communities, including job creation and skill development.
Situated at the edge of the estuary with a 100m quay side frontage and direct access to an improved slipway, the Appledore Clean Maritime Centre is designed to maximise interaction with the waterfront, enabling a smooth flow from development to testing to delivery and into commercialisation.
The Centre is working in partnership with key bodies such as Maritime UK SW, Ministry for Housing, Community and Local Growth (MHCLG), National Shipbuilding Office, and the Catapult networks. These partnerships, combined with links to exciting activity at the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport and regional neighbours Celtic Sea Power, ensure the Appledore Clean Maritime Innovation Centre will be a key driver for job creation and net zero-driven growth, providing a clear focus for activity on the northern coast of Devon at the gateway to the Celtic sea.
Beyond its industrial goals, the Centre aims inspire local pride, nurturing aspiration across all age groups and to encourage the development of new skills and the ability to access higher-earning employment.
Works are shortly due to commence on site with the improvements to the Quay Wall, with completion of all works expected in 2026.
