On Wednesday 21st August, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner organised an engagement event in Jubilee Square, Bideford to interact with residents regarding hotspot policing and antisocial behaviour. The patrols represent a multi-agency approach to improving community safety.

The event was attended by members of Torridge District Council, Bideford Town Council, the Community Safety Partnership and Bideford's neighbourhood policing team. The event provided a good opportunity to discuss the positive impact the street marshal patrols have had so far in making our communities safer.

Bideford is one of 13 areas across Devon and Cornwall to receive funding for patrols to tackle antisocial behaviour and serious violence. Street marshal patrols provide a visible presence to deter unwanted activity, as well as provide reassurance to both residents and businesses.

Councillor Doug Bushby, Chair of Torridge District Council, said;

"I fully support any initiative that enhances the safety of Bideford's streets for everyone. The patrols have been actively engaging with members of the public and local businesses, and the feedback they've received has been incredibly positive. Additionally, the police have also expressed their positive remarks regarding the coverage of the hotspot. A big thank you to everyone involved in this important scheme."
