T Level Student

Two T Level Students from Petroc are getting a head start in business by undertaking work experience at Torridge District Council.  T Levels are a two-year qualification for 16-19-year-olds designed in collaboration with employers and combine classroom theory with practical learning.

One of the students Kiara, has just finished her placement at Torridge District Council after spending seven months working in the Economic Development Department. The other student Jacob has been at the Council since the start of the year and is part of the Communications team.

Kiara, T Level in Management and administration (Level 3) Year 2 student, Petroc commented:

"I have really enjoyed completing my placement with Torridge District Council.  It has been really helpful to connect my course with my industry placement, linking real life examples to my studies and using some of my learnings from college in the workplace.  Everyone has been very friendly and welcoming.  During my time in the economic development team, I have particularly enjoyed supporting the Bideford town centre communication work, helping with the running and maintenance of the Discover Bideford website.  There is always something to do and each task is different, so it is very interesting. I have felt really welcomed and included here at the Council; I am very happy that I chose Torridge District Council for my industry placement."

Jacob, T Level in Management and administration (Level 3) Year 1 student, Petroc commented:

"I have had the pleasure of carrying out my work experience at the Torridge District Council.  My time at the council has been amazing so far. I look forward to every Tuesday as I know there will be a new project for me to complete. Having many varying projects allows me to stretch my skills whilst also learning more about the software's I'm using and the council. I know in my remaining time at the council I am going to learn many valuable skills that I will take with me for the rest of my life. Everyone was extremely friendly and made me feel welcome."

Sarah Ayres, HR and Comms Manager at Torridge District Council, commented:

At Torridge District Council we understand the importance of inspiring the next generation and offering work experience opportunities to young people in the local area.  We are delighted to support students who have decided to take the T Level route and we have been very impressed with their skills and maturity that they have brought to the office.  It is a pleasure to watch them grow and develop and we look forward to welcoming more students in the future."
