Dead Seal Carcass Washed up at Westward Ho! - Tuesday 26th July
Update 28 July 2022
The tidal action has failed to remove the carcass from the beach so access for a mechanical digger has been arranged for this afternoon (Thursday 28th July) to place the carcass on a trailer for removal and onward transport for disposal.
The Council has been alerted to a dead Seal which has washed up on Westward Ho! beach on a section in line with the visitor centre at Northam Burrows. As shown in the picture officers have been despatched to complete a Seal Stranding report for scientific records.
It is expected that the carcass will be washed out again by upcoming tides but in the meantime we are advising members of the public not to approach the seal and to keep their pets away as it can present a biohazard if approached without protective clothing.
Officers will continue to monitor the situation and further assessments will be carried out if required.
