Government Announce £150 Council Tax Rebate from April 2022

Please do not ring the Council for advice on this issue just yet as we are awaiting further details from the Government of how the scheme is to be implemented.

However, in principle the Government has announced:

• A £150 discount for those in England whose homes are in council tax bands A-D (about 80% of homes). It will not apply to second homes or empty properties. The discount will be automatically applied to your Council Tax account from April.

• A £144 million separate pot of financial support will also be set up for vulnerable households in England. This is discretionary funding for local authorities to give to those who may slip through the net or need additional support. For example, to help lower-income households who don't pay council tax or who have homes in bands E-H.

As with the Council Tax rebate we do not have details of how this additional scheme will operate but we will advertise this when received from the Government.
