Torridge currently retains 40% of the business rates it collects, the balance being distributed to Central Government (50%) Devon County Council (9%) and Devon & Somerset Fire Authority (1%).
Torridge retains 100% of all the business rates due from Renewable Energy businesses (Solar and Wind Farms).
Whilst Torridge Council collects non-domestic rates from businesses, the rateable value of each property is set by the Valuation Office Agency, who also handle checks and challenges against rateable values.
The rate in the pound is set annually by Central Government.
