Torrington Pool reopens with Free Entry Event Sat 11th June Following Repairs & Refurbishment
Torrington Swimming Pool is set to reopen under the management of Active Torridge after six months of enforced closure due to a major water leak from the pool. Active Torridge who took over the management of Torridge's Leisure facilities in April have been working tirelessly in collaboration with Torridge District Council to resolve the issues, which were complicated by difficulties in locating and accessing the site of the damage and then supply chain problems leading to extended delivery times for components.
The Pool and other facilities will officially reopen from Monday 13th June but there is an open day being held on Saturday 11th June, where people can experience the facilities free of charge and have access to some one-day-only promotions on memberships and swimming lessons.
Once fully open the centre will be offering swimming sessions, aquafit classes and swimming lessons as well as being the home base of the Torridgeside Amateur Swimming Club.
Matthew Wright - Head of Leisure Operations explained:
"The primary defect was a substantial leak due a large section of split pipework. This required extensive excavation works around the pool area to locate and replace the damaged sections. Whilst this was taking place and with the cooperation of Torridge engineers, we have taken the opportunity to bring forward the installation of more efficient boilers, as well as new flooring and internal and external redecoration works. We have also recruited some fantastic new staff allowing us to increase the operating hours by 47% compared to pre-closure. We are really looking forward to welcoming our members, old and new, clubs, schools and the wider community back to the pool once again and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while the facility was closed."
Councillor Ken James - Leader of Torridge District Council said:
"I am delighted that the Pool in Great Torrington is reopening again and would like to thank everyone for their patience while we undertook the essential repairs. I'm really pleased that Active Torridge have taken the decision to ask people to join them for some free events on Saturday 11th June as their way of welcoming people back. This ushers in a new era and fresh approach for leisure in Torrington and across the district with Active Torridge now at the helm."
