Pilotage

Anchor icon

We are able to provide Pilotage services should you require this. Our Pilots have expert knowledge of the Taw and Torridge estuary and will be able to provide advice on passage plans and navigation.

Vessels over 50m are required to embark a Pilot when entering the District.  For vessels below 50m Pilotage is not compulsory but for first visits the embarkation of a Pilot is most strongly recommended.  The tidal streams and shifting banks in the river, particularly towards the shipyard  means that moving any ship in the estuary requires considerable caution. Pilotage is available 24 hours a day.
