Earlier this year, Torridge District Council launched a competition to name two brand new street cleansing vehicles that have recently joined the Council fleet.

Over one hundred entries were received with many unique and comic name suggestions.  The winning names for the vehicles have been chosen by the crews, supervisors and managers of the council's waste and recycling service and have been turned into stylised graphic designs and printed onto templates which have been applied to the vehicles for everyone to see.

The winning vehicle names were Binderella, suggested by Carly Tucker and Freddie Tucker and Lightning McClean suggested by Mr Lavers.

The supervisors and crews had a great time looking through the name suggestions.  The vehicles are now all in service and stationed in Holsworthy, to support the Cleansing Team with various tasks, such as cleaning toilets, emptying litter and dog bins, and clearing any illegally dumped waste.

Councillor Chris Leather, Lead Member for Operational Services, Torridge District Council, said:

"Thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to take part in the competition.  Congratulations to the winners who can now proudly see their name suggestions emblazoned on the vans for all to see.  The Waste & Recycling Team's task of selecting the winners was daunting, given the sheer quality and quantity of name submissions.

"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the crews for their dedication and commitment to delivering an exceptional service to the residents of Torridge, their hard work and efforts are greatly appreciated!"
