Join the Wilder Communities Drop-in Event at the Northam Burrows on Friday 8th March

The free drop in event is being hosted at the Northam Burrows Visitor Centre on Friday 8th March between 12:00 and 3:00pm. It will be a great chance to bring your ideas to the Wilder Communities Team, get inspiration, advice, and resources to take your idea or project to the next level.

The charity - Devon Wildlife Trust - has been at the forefront of protecting wildlife and the wild places that make Devon so special for over 60 years. The trust believe that a better world is where nature and people thrive together, and so the Wilder Communities Team is here to help support communities taking action for nature where they live, learn or work.

The trust believe that connecting with or giving nature a helping hand doesn't need large or well-funded schemes, although the trust can help you with those as well! The Wilder Communities team can help you no matter the size of your project from planting a mini-meadow in your garden or local park, helping hedgehogs in your street, or starting a community orchard or even if you just have an idea. They want to inspire people to make existing ideas a reality or use the trusts expertise to generate new ones. On top of this they also want to help individuals or groups connect with each other in communities and ultimately make the places where we live greener, wilder and richer in nature.

Torridge District Council is working closely with Devon Wildlife Trust and other environmental organisations to help deliver biodiversity improvements in the local area. This is part of the Government's 25-year Environmental Plan and the nationwide strategy to halt the decline in wildlife and help promote nature recovery across the country.

Torridge District Councillor Lyndon Piper and Lead Member for Leisure said:

"Hosting this free event at the Burrows is a wonderful opportunity to inspire people and share the valuable knowledge and advice that the Devon Wildlife Trust has gained over the years. The Wilder Communities campaign is a powerful initiative that recognises the importance of working together to save our local wildlife. By uniting our efforts, we can create wilder and more vibrant communities not only in Torridge but throughout Devon!"

Katie Wilkinson, Wilder Communities Team Leader for Devon Wildlife Trust said:

"We're really happy to be working with Torridge District Council again to host this free event at the Northam Burrows visitor centre.  We're excited to use this opportunity to help as many people as possible to take action for wildlife - the tea and cake will be great too!''
