Help Nature - Wilder Communities Drop in Event at Northam Burrows 21st March
The charity - Devon Wildlife Trust - has been at the forefront of protecting wildlife and the wild places that make Devon so special for over 60 years. The trust believe that a better world is where nature and people thrive together, and have launched their "Wilder Communities" campaign to help support the establishment and growth of community nature projects, no matter how big or small.
The trust believe that connecting with or giving nature a helping hand doesn't need large or well-funded schemes, although the trust can help you with those as well! The Wilder Communities campaign is built around the fact that all sorts of different projects can make a real difference, from planting a mini-meadow in your garden or local park, helping hedgehogs in your street, or starting a community orchard. They want to inspire people to make existing ideas a reality or use the trusts expertise to generate new ones. On top of this they also want to help individuals or groups connect with each other in communities and through all this activity to ultimately make the places where we live greener, wilder and richer in nature.
The free drop in event is being hosted at Northam Burrows Visitor Centre on Tuesday 21st March between 12 and 3pm. It will be a great chance to see what might be possible or find out how people can take projects already underway to the next level and maybe a wider audience or collaborate with others. There'll be a host of free resources, bespoke advice, wildlife gardening tips, funding information and free Wildflower seeds being given away for anyone dropping in.
Torridge Councillor Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin - Lead Member for Community, Culture and Leisure said:
"I'm really glad that we're hosting this free event at the Burrows with a chance for people to be inspired and tap into the knowledge and advice the Devon Wildlife Trust have built up over the years. Wilder Communities is a great campaign to get behind and recognises that saving our local wildlife works better through a joint effort and that by joining together we can collectively help create wilder communities across Torridge and the rest of Devon. Please come along to be inspired and don't forget to collect your Free pack of wildflower seeds."
