Small Business Saturday 3rd Dec, Festive events and Free Parking Days in Torridge!

Small Business Saturday 2022

Small Business Saturday 2022

Torridge District Council are throwing their support behind the 2022 "Small Business Saturday" campaign which aims to highlight small business success and encourage consumers to "shop local" and support local shops, restaurants and other Torridge businesses. The event this year falls on Saturday 3rd December with Torridge Councillors providing free parking in all council car parks on the day and further free parking days in the coming weeks.

The festive season is an important trading period for businesses and Torridge is in the lucky position of having many high quality and unique independent retailers right on its doorstep. Now in its 10th year the national event has engaged millions and seen billions spent with small businesses on the day and in the run up to Christmas. People are being encouraged to support all types of small local businesses, both online and in stores, or lend support in other ways, such as leaving positive reviews and spreading the word about their favourite small businesses.

The event falls in the middle of the first week of official autumn festivities around the district, which includes light switch-on's, late night shopping offers, live music, festive workshops, funfairs, market stalls and great food and drink. The gatherings are a great opportunity for communities to come together and celebrate as families or with friends and neighbours, with most of the events free to attend.

To find out more about all the events planned in the area, including further free parking days people should visit the council information pages at www.torridge.gov.uk/christmas2022 or download the Discover App, both of which are packed full of things to do and visit.

Councillor Ken James - Leader of Torridge District Council said:

"While it might seem that a lot of things are not totally within our control at the moment, where we spend our money is still one that we usually have some discretion over. Just a few pounds spent locally by each of us can collectively mushroom into a much larger sum, all of which goes towards supporting local jobs, and where a reported 63p of every pound we spend stays local to generate more investment and spending."
