Half-Term Fun and Activities out and about at Northam Burrows!
Northam Burrow Rangers have been busy putting the finishing touches to some exciting and free Half-Term activities at Northam Burrows suitable for young and old alike.
The first of the these, running dawn to dusk from Saturday 22nd to Sunday 30th October, is a Spooky Half Term Halloween Adventure Trail. The discovery trail is self-guided from a map that can be downloaded here Halloween Trail Guide and Map Oct 22nd - 30th (PDF) [1MB] or collected from the visitor's centre - then simply head outdoors to the Burrows to find evidence of creepy creatures and strange sculptures marked on the map. Solve the clues to reveal the secret words.
On Tuesday 25th October there will be a Wildlife Friendly Garden event at the visitor's centre, in collaboration with the North Devon Biosphere. Join the rangers in making plant pots and take away seeds to grow over the winter months. There will also be a garden craft making session and a guide on how to make your garden just right for hibernating wildlife over the winter, such as hedgehogs and dormice.
The final organised event for the half term is a free fun dog show, on Thursday 27th October between 2pm and 4pm, once again at the visitor centre. There'll be a whole host of silly competitions and an opportunity to find out if your dog will be the cutest puppy or golden oldie? has the waggiest tail or best trick? or maybe they're just content to take part and mingle with the rest of the pack. There'll also be categories for the best in show and best junior dog handler under 12.
All the events are family friendly with no booking requirements, simply turn up and take part. Children must be accompanied by an adult and suitable footwear and clothing for the weather is recommended for the outdoor events.
Torridge District Councillor, Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin - Lead Member for Community, Culture and Leisure said:
"With such a variety of events at the Northam Burrows park this half-term I'm sure there'll be something for everyone to take part in, and even some exciting things to make and take home. There's also lots to discover on the spooky Halloween trail so I may even be adding a few dates to the diary myself. A great chance to have fun and learn a bit more about the burrows and nature."
