Volunteer Recruitment drive underway for Northam Burrows Autumn Conservation Projects

As the summer slowly draws to a close the Northam Burrows Rangers are already preparing for a busy Autumn of Nature Conservation Work. Help from volunteers to look after the Country Park and other Local Nature Reserves is crucial for the protection of the local environment but also offers a great way for people to get out doors, keep fit and have some fun with like-minded people.

As with previous years the Ranger team have organised a full programme of work party events for the community to get involved in, with an opportunity to learn more about nature and learn some new skills. The programme kicks off on the 7^th of September from 10am-4pm at Kenwith Valley Local Nature Reserve, where the team will use 'green hay' to create and prepare a flower rich meadow and the perfect habitat for bees, butterflies and other pollinators.

Wednesday, 14th September - Water germander wildflower survey

Saturday, 24th September     - Marine Conservation Society Great British Beach Clean (12-4pm)

Wednesday, 28th September - Cut and rake meadows at Kenwith Valley Local Nature Reserve

Wednesday, 5th October       - Cut and rake bumblebee conservation area

Wednesday, 19th October     - Installing posts for dune netting to 'create new dune'

Wednesday, 2nd November  - Footpath improvements and step repairs

Wednesday, 16th November - Removing bramble from areas of the sand dunes

Wednesday, 7th December   - Removing willow from reed beds Kenwith Valley Local Nature Reserve

All the events run from 10am-4pm unless stated otherwise.

Events are free to participate in for anyone aged 16 or over but pre-booking is essential. Tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided but the Rangers ask volunteers to bring sturdy boots and suitable weather appropriate clothing as well as a packed lunch. The schedules are flexible and people can attend for part of the sessions if they cannot attend for the full day.
