Government Planning Policy

GOV dot UK logo

The government's planning policies for England and how these are expected to be applied are set out through the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).

The NPPF is supported by National Planning Practice Guidance (NPPG), which sets out more detailed guidance on how national policy should be implemented, and it is intended that the two documents should be read together. It covers a wide range of topics, including considerations relating to decision making and plan making.

Gypsies and Travellers are protected from discrimination by the Equality Act 2010 and the Human Rights Act 1998, together with all ethnic groups who have a particular culture, language or values. There is specific government planning policy for traveller sites, which should be read in conjunction with the NPPF.
