Torridge Town Studies

Introduction

Town studies have been prepared to support additional stakeholder consultation for the North Devon and Torridge Joint Core Strategy. The town studies provide a local profile and commentary on issues such as: population, housing growth, economic activity, service provision and infrastructure capacity, environmental considerations, development opportunities and constraints. The examination of these issues will guide the District Council's decision making about how to best accommodate the future needs of each town.

The town studies have been used to support stakeholder consultation events held in September 2011 at Holsworthy, Great Torrington, Bideford and Northam. The outcomes from the workshops will now be used as part of the critical evidence for the North Devon and Torridge Joint Core Strategy.

Partnership Approach

Torridge District Council is working in partnership with North Devon Council to achieve a sound evidence base for the North Devon and Torridge Joint Core Strategy. North Devon Council is also carrying out a series of town studies and associated workshops for their main towns.

Next Stage

With the completion of the workshops in September 2011 the outcomes from each event is now available to view through a Feedback Report. The Feedback Report is published, as part of the process of transparent engagement. The outcomes from the workshops together with completed technical evidence and the results of previous formal public consultation will be used to revise the draft Core Strategy. Further public consultation on the North Devon and Torridge Joint Core Strategy is programmed to take place in spring/summer 2012.
