How can we create regeneration in a beautiful market town, create community pride and shape better futures for young people across northern Devon?

The Globe Hotel project offers an innovative, deliverable and impactful route to address all of these by acquiring a long-closed hotel in the heart of Great Torrington and developing a high-quality community-owned hotel with training at its core. Our goal is for it to become a true destination for visitors to RHS Rosemoor and Dartington Crystal whilst also providing a vibrant experience to acts and audiences to the neighbouring Plough Arts Centre. All of this whilst creating jobs, a great place to eat, drink and also work in the heart of the town. And with high environmental standards and local benefit underpinning every element of operations.

After what is expected to be a £3million renovation process, lasting around 2 years, The Globe will operate as a high quality hotel driven by a mission to provide top-level hospitality training to a range of apprentice opportunities every year, the project has been developed as a partnership between Torridge District Council, Great Torrington Town Council, Petroc and The Plough Arts Centre. It will work in partnership with local, regional and national hospitality partners. So it will provide fantastic service, beautiful rooms in a town flanked by RHS Rosemoor and Dartington Crystal, support acts and audience members for The Plough Arts Centre and generate more footfall for the town centre as a whole. The 60-cover restaurant will focus on fresh, local produce delivered creatively, in a town with no current dine-in offer, while the co-working space will

create both a vibrant environment for small businesses and a route to training and business support.

But all of this will come with that core twist - that by delivering on the highest standards the hotel will also be supporting brighter futures for the young people of the town, wider northern Devon region and as a result also supporting hospitality businesses across the area.

The community share issue designed to provide community ownership and engagement with the project, as well as to create a truly distinctive model for community wealth building, is scheduled to go live in early 2022. So please keep up to date on the "Bringing The Globe Hotel back to life" Facebook page.
