New Digital Parking Permits Introduced across Torridge

Parking Permit

Parking permits in Torridge are about to go digital from Monday 14th September and will apply to all types from Season and Business Permits to Temporary Tourist Permits and others. The new technology will allow people to purchase any permit quickly and securely online and without the need to obtain a paper copy of their permit, giving instant cover once payment has been made. Permit records will be held electronically and handheld technology will be used to by civil enforcement officers to determine whether a vehicle has a valid permit or not when occupying a parking space in one of the Councils permitted parking bays. Under the new scheme users will no longer have to worry about forgetting to display their permits or deal with instances where it might slip or be blown from the dashboard.

The new service will replace the current application method, although existing paper permits will still be valid until they are renewed on the new digital system. All a member of the public needs to create an account is an email address, where confirmation of payment will be sent, and in the future a reminder when your permit has almost expired. Users will also be able to view their permits, alter them as well as renewing them all online with the simple and user-friendly interface.

Councillor Bob Hicks - Lead Member for the Economy said:

"We hope people will embrace the new system which does away with the tedium of obtaining and displaying paper permits and has been designed to be quick and easy to access. The new benefits such as email reminders for when permits are about to expire should also help people more easily manage their renewals and be one less thing they have to worry about. The switch is also another small step towards our goal of achieving carbon neutral status as a Council by 2030."
