Torridge residents are being reminded to make sure they're ready to have their say in the 2019 general election by registering to vote.

A snap general election is taking place across the country on Thursday 12 December, anyone aged 18 or over will be able to vote on the day, providing they are on the register of electors. Residents have until 5pm on Tuesday 26 November to register to vote - it's quick and easy to do, taking just five minutes to apply online.

Residents only need to register to vote once but must update their details on the register if they change, this includes, when moving house or if their name changes, for example when getting married.

Senior Elections Officer at Torridge District Council, Tom Vanstone, said:

"If you want to have your voice heard in the general election on 12th December then you need to make sure you're registered by 26 November. The process is quick and easy and the elections team at Torridge are also able to help if you have any queries. You can also nominate someone to vote on your behalf or select to have a postal vote if you cant make it to the polling station on the day, but the deadline for all of these is fast approaching so check online or call the team as soon as possible."
