Tributes to Ex-Torridge Councillor Allin Bewes who sadly passed away on Saturday 5th October

Tributes have been paid following the news that Ex-Torridge District Councillor Allin Bewes sadly passed away on Saturday 5th October

Allin Bewes was a popular and well known Councillor representing the Shebbear and Langtree Ward from 1999 until 2007. Actively engaged in Council activities and projects he held many important positions during his time in office including Chair of the Council's Scrutiny Committee. Allin also sat on many of the other decision making bodies at the Council including Planning, Policy and Resources, and Licensing committees as well as being vice-chair of the Finance sub-committee and a participant in many working groups.

Councillor Peter Christie - Ward Member for Bideford North said: "I remember Allin well. He was a passionate representative of the farming community, always willing to discuss rural matters in a measured and intelligent way. I recall him as a real gentleman with a wide variety of interests."

Councillor Tony Inch - Ward Member for Bideford West said: "I was a Councillor with Allin from 2003 until he stepped down in 2007. He was a very nice man a real gentleman and a very knowledgeable Councillor. He helped me so much in my early days as a Councillor and also had a good sense of humour. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this sad time."

Head of Paid Service at Torridge Jenny Wallace said: "Allin was a real gentleman and very committed to both the community he represented and Torridge as a whole. I am very sorry to hear of his passing and send my condolences to his family at this sad time."

The flag at Riverbank House will be flying at half-mast in respect with everyone at Torridge District Council offering their condolences to Allin's family.
