Impressive New Car Park for Westward Ho!

wilkey's field car park opening

On Friday 19th July Torridge District Council officially opened Wilkey's Field car park in Westward Ho!

The Car Park has been being built to provide extra spaces for the popular Westward Ho! resort area and alleviate some of the congestion currently experienced during the busy summer months.

In total 149 spaces have been created with 31 of these open all year round and 118 spaces that will only be used during the summer months. 8 Disabled bays have been created as part of the scheme as well as provision for 2 electric charging points in the future and a small number of private bays. Gates to the car park will be operated on the same timings as the gates to the Northam Burrows Country Park, which is intended to reduce the risk of out of hours anti-social behaviour.

Torridge District Councils Property and Procurement Manager - Adrian Redwood said:

"Although we have worked to minimise any disruption to local traffic and parking, we appreciate that our works have impacted the local area, and we would like to thank the local residents for their patience during the construction period. We are really pleased that the works have progressed and the new parking facility has been completed in time for the main summer holiday period."

Westward Ho! District Councillor, Nick Laws said:

"I am really pleased that Torridge Council has delivered this additional parking capacity to Westward Ho! which will help us to accommodate the rising volumes of tourist traffic coming to our town and support the businesses that operate nearby. The land on Wilkey's Field was provided through a Section 106 agreement with Chichester Homes and is a good example of developers working in partnership with the Council to provide additional benefits to local communities. Well done to all those involved in providing this impressive new parking facility."
