State of the Art Skate Park Rolls On!

Skate Park

£100,000 has been allocated to design and install a brand new concrete skate park that will be created on the redundant tennis courts that sit within the Bideford Sports Ground. 50% of this funding is coming from an external grant and further funding is to be secured from Section 106 development monies to establish a second phase, expanding the project further down the line.

Due to the ramps corroding away, the Council had to close the old skate park in February 2017 for health and safety reasons. Whilst an interim ramp was provided, the Council always intended to provide a state of the art family orientated facility that will attract people from all around. The new location puts the park in the heart of the community and is hoped to offer opportunities that are not available at other local skate parks providing a totally unique and different facility for the user.

The project will be going out to tender within the next couple of weeks and once a preferred contractor is chosen then a comprehensive public consultation will take place to determine exactly how the facility will be constructed. Following this consultation the project will be submitted to the Plans Committee in late summer with the park planned to be in the ground by the end of the year.

Councillor Phil Pennington Lead Member for Community, Culture & Leisure said: "The Sports Ground is the ideal location for the town's new destination skate park. The area lends itself perfectly for a new facility like this and with thorough public consultation we will ensure that the park offers exactly what the users would like to see."
