Mandy Isaac and Emma Weeks of the Kingsmead Play Area Fund Group contacted Torridge to discuss the possibility of installing new equipment in Kingsmead play area. They had applied to the Coastal Recycling Community Fund, via GrantScape, for a grant to support a new multi-unit piece of playground equipment.

The funding group had to raise £1,117 in order to access the £10,000 grant. However, after their hard work, more funding was needed to cover the cost of the new equipment and to help the scheme move forward Torridge made up the £2,552.

With all funding in place an order was issued to Mant leisure with the likely installation being in 6-8 weeks.

A fantastic effort from all members of The Kingsmead Play Area Funding group: Emma Weeks - Chairman, Mandy Isaac - Secretary, Louise Barton - Treasurer, Kim Gardiner - Vice Chairman, Catherine Fry - Committee member, Jenna Busuttil - Committee member.

Well done to all involved!

Chris Wilson, Torridge District Council's Project Officer said "I believe this project represents a fantastic example of what can be achieved by the local community. The hard work, courage and persistence of this community group along with the helpful and generous approach from the Coastal Recycling Community Fund, administered by GrantScape, should be an inspiration to all of those out there who wish to improve their local environment. These guys really are local heroes and have secured a wonderful new play facility guaranteed for 25 years".

Adrian Redwood, Torridge District Council's Property & Procurement Manager said "It provides me with tremendous encouragement when local community groups organise themselves to secure funding that would not otherwise be available to the local authority. Torridge were delighted to be able to support the group throughout the funding and grant process to supply and deliver this much needed equipment. We would be very pleased to assist other local groups in a similar way in future."
