Refuse FAQ's

  • Q

Does my refuse have to be placed in a black bag?

    A

Yes, all household refuse must be placed in a black refuse sack in order for Torridge District Council to collect.

  • Q

When is my refuse due to be collected?

    A

  • Q

What time does my refuse need to be placed outside for collection?

    A

Refuse collections begin at 5.45am. We ask that your refuse is left out by this time, if not, the previous evening.

  • Q

Where will my refuse be collected from?

    A

Torridge District Council will collect your refuse from the kerbside outside your property. However, if you live in an area which provides a specific collection point, TDC will collect from there.

  • Q

Why can't you collect my refuse from my driveway/property/front door?

    A

When refuse is present at the kerbside it is easily visible for our crew to see, therefore avoiding missed collections.

  • Q

I have just moved in to a property that has been vacant for a while now. How do I receive a collection for my refuse?

    A

  • Q

I cannot carry my refuse to the kerb outside my property.

I'm suffering from a short-term illness and cannot carry my refuse to my kerbside. Am I able to arrange an assisted collection?

    A

If you are able to provide Torridge District Council with a letter from your Doctor, advising that you require additional support, we may be able to arrange a short-term assisted collection for you.

  • Q

My refuse hasn't been collected. Why?

    A

  • Q

I have a lot of refuse that needs collecting following a missed collection. Please can someone collect this for me?

    A

  • Q

Please can I order a wheelie bin for my refuse collection?

    A

Unfortunately, Torridge District Council do not currently provide wheelie bins for refuse storage. However, this is under review and will be considered moving forwards. In the meantime, TDC would be more than happy to collect your refuse from a bin no more than 700mm high and 500mm wide, should you wish to purchase one. B&Q often sell such items. Containers such as garden storage boxes are also suitable.

  • Q

Why can't you provide me with a bin for my refuse when I am paying council tax for this service?

    A

Unfortunately, this currently isn't a service provided in the Torridge area. Due to high costs Torridge District Council would require additional funding to be able to source and provide such items. Such funding isn't available at this moment in time. However, the waste management service is under review, of which providing such bins will be considered moving forwards.

  • Q

How can I stop animals from getting in to my refuse bags?

    A

If you would like to purchase a bin to store your refuse we would be happy to collect the waste from this. Torridge District Council aren't able to provide bins for refuse at the moment; however, companies such as B&Q sell waist-height bins that aim to keep animals away. Please make sure any bin purchased is no more than 700mm high and 500mm wide.

  • Q

I own/work at a local shop/pub/cafe and would like to arrange a refuse collection. How do I arrange this?

    A

Unfortunately, refuse waste collated by shops, pubs and cafes etc. are classed as 'trade/commercial waste' of which, Torridge District Council does not collect. Should you wish to arrange collection of your trade waste you are advised to contact one of the private contractors that operate in the area.
