Winter Volunteers Needed at Northam Burrows!

Northam Burrows Scrub Clearance 2016

Following the end of another busy summer season at Northam Burrows, the Rangers will once again be looking to take advantage of the autumn / winter months to embark upon a busy maintenance programme. One of the important jobs carried out at this time of year is the control of invasive scrub, to help protect the rare plants and wildlife living in the park. Having already cut a large area of scrub the Rangers now need help to rake up and burn the cuttings and will be holding a Rake and Burn volunteer event on the 29th of November, from 10am-4pm.

This is an opportunity to join other members of the community and help protect the unique environment found on Northam Burrows.

Councillor James Morrish Lead Member for the Economy and Northam Burrows said:

"Volunteering makes an enormous contribution to the management of Northam Burrows. We are very grateful for all the support we receive as it helps to keep the park in good condition for plants and wildlife. These events are a great opportunity to make a real difference, but are also a chance to meet like minded people, keep fit and learn new skills".

Volunteers should meet at the Burrows Centre and bring suitable clothing and footwear, and a packed lunch is also advisable. There will be plenty of tea and coffee, and tools will be provided by the North Devon Biosphere Service. If you are planning to come please let the Rangers know so they can arrange enough tools for everyone.
