Tributes have been paid to an ex Torridge District councillor and former Chairman who has sadly passed away.

Tony Collins was Ward Member for Kenwith for 12 years, from 1991-2003 and from 2007-2011. He was Chairman of the Council during 2001/2002, was the Lead member for Customer Services, and he was an active member of the Plans Committee and the Policy Performance and Resources Committee. Tony was also a Devon County Councillor.

Councillor Jane Whittaker - Leader of Torridge District Council said: I was never a Councillor during the years when Tony was so active in both Torridge District Council and Devon County Council. Our relationship began and flourished during the time I managed Torridge Voluntary Services (TVS). Tony held our communities near to his heart and his understanding of what TVS delivered ensured that he and I became friends. He had a real care for the residents he was elected to support and was a lovely man who many of us will miss; our condolences must go to his wife, Susan."

Councillor Alison Boyle, Ward Member for Kenwith said: "Tony Collins was an excellent District and County Councillor who worked very hard for the people he represented. Personally, both he and his wife Sue provided valuable guidance to me and actual support at election times. He was a very dear friend and he will be hugely missed."

Councillor Simon Inch, Deputy Chair of Torridge District Council said: "Tony was a real gentleman, a sincere man, and a good councillor who always had his constituents in mind. My condolences to his family at this sad time."

Councillor Margaret Brown, Ward Member for Torrington said: "Sad news. Tony was a well respected Councillor who worked tirelessly for his ward during his time at Torridge District Council. My thoughts are with his family. RIP Tony."
