Burrows Visitor Centre back up and running in record time!

Visitors Centre Repaired Jul 17

Following the significant fire that damaged Northam Burrows Visitor Centre over the May Bank Holiday weekend, Torridge's property and construction teams have been working closely with contractors to return the facility to full use in time for the main summer holiday season.

As a result of all the hard work the central section of the building has been completely re-roofed and refurbished to enable the centre to reopen to the public again during the first week of the school holidays. The centre reopening also coincides with the launch of the Burrows summer programme of events, talks and walks which will have something for all ages. These family friendly events are a great way to get outside and explore the local environment, whilst also having lots of fun.

Councillor Philip Pennington - Lead Member for Community, Culture and Leisure said:

"We are very grateful to the insurance loss adjuster, all of the local contractors and TDC officers who have really pulled the stops out to achieve the full reinstatement of the facilities to a very tight timescale. Our rangers led by Michael Day have also done a magnificent job of working around the problems the fire caused while still maintaining a "business as usual" approach to keeping the park open and running."

Lead Ranger - Michael Day said:

"We are delighted to announce the reopening of the visitor centre in time for the school summer holidays. The quick turn around has been a great achievement and I am proud of the way we have bounced back from the fire at the end of May. This has been thanks to the efforts of everyone involved in the rebuild, to whom I am extremely grateful. The Rangers have been busy designing new displays and preparing an exciting programme of events.  We look forward to seeing everyone next week enjoying this fantastic facility once again"
