Armed Forces - Flag Raising Ceremony

Armed Forces Day

Torridge District Council will be organising a Flag Raising Ceremony in Victoria Park at 6.30pm on 19th June to commemorate Armed Forces Week 2017. The event will coincide with week long celebrations around the Country in honour of our Servicemen and Woman both past and present.

This will be the ninth time such an event has been held nationally and recognises the contribution and sacrifices made by all members of our armed forces and their families in serving their Country. The UK Armed Forces defend the UK and its interests worldwide while also working on projects to promote peace, delivering aid and much needed infrastructure, and fighting terrorism.

The planned events will begin at 6.30pm with a parade from the Quay in Bideford to the flagstaff at Victoria Park. As in previous years the parade will consist of representatives from Military Associations and cadet and youth

Groups and this year East the Water primary school choir will be singing in the park.

An Act of Remembrance will allow everybody to reflect on those who have given their lives serving in the military.

Councillor John Himan - Chair Torridge District Council said:

"We would like to extend a warm invitation to everyone who is able to join us at the Flag Raising Ceremony on the 19th as part of the Armed Forces Week celebrations. Please come along to show your support for the men and woman who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets. It will be a great opportunity to commemorate and recognise their past and present commitment in serving this country around the world"
