Tributes Paid to Former Councillor - David Fulford

David Fullford

Tributes have been paid to an ex Torridge District councillor who has sadly passed away.

David Fulford was Ward member for Bideford North from 2007-2015 and also sat on the Councils Internal Overview and Scrutiny and Standards Committees for many years.

David was also deputy Mayor of Bideford Town in 2012 and 2013 and was also active as a board member and trustee for many organisations such as the Pollyfield Centre and Tarka Housing.

Councillor Jane Whittaker - Leader of Torridge District Council said:

"Councillor David Fulford was in every sense a local man, his commitment to the town he cared so much about was always unfaltering, uncompromising and unending. David held everything that was best for Bideford in his heart, and this was something that shone through everything he did in his role as a Town and District Councillor. Although no longer a fellow Councillor I know he will be sadly missed by us, especially as he continued to hold us to account for everything connected with Bideford."

Jenny Wallace - Head of Paid Service at Torridge said:

"David was very committed to getting the best for his ward. He was also very proud to be Councillor and Mayor. He will be missed and we send our condolences to his family at this sad time."

Councillor Simon Inch said: "David was very supportive to me during my time as Mayor when he was deputy Mayor. David also had a great sense of humour and liked to laugh. He also was very knowledgeable about Bideford as he spent his whole life living in the area and cared passionately about the town. Even when his health was not so good he still managed to attend meetings and put forward his points of view. He was also the Mayor of Shamwickshire - East The Water and he was very proud of this. RIP David and my sincere condolences to his wife Molly and the rest of the family.

Councillor Dermot McGeough said: "David was a true Bidefordian and he always worked hard for the best interest of our beautiful white town. May the Mayor of shamwickshire rest peacefully, knowing that we recognised his enthusiasm and love for our town and gratefully appreciated this."

Councillor Peter Christie said: "David was a kind and thoughtful man who, even when dealing with his own ill-health always had a cheery hello for everyone. His last role as Mayor of Shamwickshire brought him a lot of pleasure and we will all miss him. My condolences go to his family."

Flags are being flown at half mast at Council buildings out of respect to ex Councillor Fulford.
