Yelland stone ship expected to load from the 21st April HM Retiring.

A ship is due for YELLAND QUAY loading at GLENSANDA from the 21st April onwards, bringing another cargo of crushed stone direct from the quarry on behalf of Notts Contractors.

Bideford Harbour Master Roger Hoad will be retiring as from the end of the month, at the age of 65.

He will however continue as Pilot for the area for another three months with a view to training a replacement, and covering the pilotage service for the three ports of Yelland, Appledore and Bideford.

He has been Pilot here since September 1999, and Harbour Master since 2001, having previously served as master of the Lundy Ferry for  ten years, and as Pilot Assistant Harbour Master at Littlehampton for ten years before that.

Prior to that he was at sea with Port Line on the New Zealand run, and with the head company Cunard on their tankers, Cunard Brocklebank ships,  a bulk carrier and with Atlantic Container Lines at sea on the original Atlantic Conveyor and a period ashore with ACL Services at Southampton Docks as Lashing superintendant buying and supplying ro ro and container lashing equipment.
