Torridge Consultation on Sport and Leisure Facilities

Torridge Pool

At the end of last year Torridge District Council appointed Bennett Leisure and Planning (BELAP) in partnership with North Devon Council to undertake an analysis of playing pitch provision and needs assessment across North Devon. The next phase of this assessment has now been launched and aims to look at the provision of other types of leisure facilities such as sports halls, swimming pools and other sport infrastructure.

The Council's aim is to review all the existing facilities in terms of quantity, quality, accessibility and availability and match these with a needs assessment to produce a strategy for development in the coming years. With the Torridge population increasing year on year these vital pieces of work are designed to ensure a tailored approach to any provision. The work will help the Council to make sure that local residents, sports groups and also visitors have appropriate access and opportunity to participate in sport and leisure activities at venues and sites that are suitable and fit for purpose.

Councillor Phil Pennington - Lead Member for Community Culture & Leisure said:

"This major consultation on indoor and outdoor sports facilities is a really important piece of work that will have an impact on provision across our district for many years to come. We really want individuals clubs and other organisations to tell us what they think about current facilities and what they would like to see in the future. Sport provision is also an important contributor to the our aims and objectives for assisting people in improving their health and well being and we need to ensure that we have a robust and comprehensive evidence base against which we can develop our plans going forward. We also want to hear from young and old alike so that our plans cater fro all age groups including the elderly"
