Torridge District Council Peer Review

Torridge District Council is one of the 25% of Council's in the Country to undergo two Peer Challenges. The first was one of the early tranche of corporate peer challenges delivered by the Local Government Association as part of the new approach to sector led improvement. Peer challenges are managed and delivered by experienced elected member and officer peers.

Peer challenges are improvement focussed and tailored to meet individual councils' needs. They are designed to complement and add value to a Council's own performance and improvement. The process is not designed to provide an in-depth or technical assessment of plans and proposals. The peer team used their experience and knowledge of local government to reflect on the information presented to them by people they met, things they saw and material that they read.

The current LGA sector-led improvement support offer includes an expectation that all councils will have a Corporate Peer Challenge every 4 to 5 years.
