Council Tax discounts
What is a discount?
Your council tax is made up of two parts:
- half for the property part
- half for the personal part.
Sometimes you don't have to pay all the personal part:
If there is only one person over 18 in your home, you can get a single occupier discount. You only have to pay half of the personal part. This means you get 25% off the whole bill. Single person's discount only applies to your main home, where you live. You can't get it for a second home.
Some people aren't counted for council tax. If there are people in your home who aren't counted, it may also mean that you can get a single person's discount.
There are a number of other discounts for certain people who are over the age of 18
