Paddling Pool and Cricket Fence Makeover

Bideford Paddling Pool

Bideford Paddling Pool and Westward Ho! Cricket Pitch Fence get makeover in time for Summer

Work commences this week to refurbish and improve two well-used leisure and sporting locations ahead of the 2018 summer season. Bideford's Paddling Pool in Victoria Park will see contractors digging up and replacing all the pipework that supplies the pool's water as well as the installation of water injection points. A follow on phase 2 will include re-rendering of the pools surface and edges to include a flexible and anti slip sealant.

All of this will bring the pool treatment and circulation processes up to modern standards and improve the overall condition of the bathing water. The replacement of the pipes means running costs will also be reduced as the leaks have contributed to excessive water usage in recent years while new anti-slip treatments will make the whole environment a safer place for children to enjoy themselves in. The expectation is that the works will also extend the useful life of the pool by approximately another 20 years.

In Westward Ho! the Council will be replacing around 140 metres of timber fence and repairing concrete posts along the boundary of the cricket pitch and Golf Links Road. As well as improving the functionality of the fence it will also improve the outward appearance of the facility in this important tourist location.

Councillor Phil Pennington - Lead Member for Community, Culture and Leisure said: "Both these facilities will look much fresher and rejuvenated after these works have been completed and will be ready well ahead of the busy summer season. The Bideford paddling pool is a favourite with families and children in the summer and is often very crowded when the sun shines over the town. As well as making the whole set-up smarter and safer, the refurbishments should pay for themselves in reduced running costs and see the facilities safeguarded for future generations to use."
